An Invitation

A place where we work together to cultivate brave spaces, seed collaboration, and nurture innovation.  Conversations at Halcyon sprout from the ecological knowledge that tranquility, prosperity, and happiness are entangled, not separate measures of success.  The natural setting provides the opportunity to coregulate with Mother Earth and tap into the comforting energy that flows within us, between us, and around us. This is an invitation to spend time in this spaciousness.  To root into yourself.  To relate with others.  To remember what has been.  To regenerate what can be. This is an invitation to unfold your path of contribution towards a healthier, more sustainable, and peaceful future for all.

Halcyon Homesteading is located in the foothills of Alberta, Canada on Treaty 7 lands. The property was once the home of the father of Canadian country music, Wilf Carter. Operating from the ecological paradigm, that everything is interconnected, we maintain a focus on creating experiences and products that will improve your health and increase your joy.  Hence, holistic, healthy, and happy.  Embracing the paradox inherent in life I continue to enhance my practice in complexity theory while tending to the chickens, rabbit, gardens, orchard and berry patches... and walking along the river each evening.  Cultivating brave spaces, reducing our carbon footprint, increasing our self-sufficiency in food production, and creating all-natural household products that promote feelings of calmness, courageousness, or joyfulness - just all in a days work here ;).

Embracing all the joys that applied learning experiences (i.e. mistakes, errors, follies, and epic failures) have to offer, being present on the journey to simply be a bit better each and every day, I look forward to sharing my stories and hearing yours. If any aspect of sustainable living resonates with you, look around the website to learn more.

About Me

My name is Dr. Reva Bond. A Manitoba farmer's daughter, I spent the early part of my life doing my darndest to get as far away from rural life as possible.  Now, I find myself doing my darndest to recreate the tranquility, the slow pace, and the feelings of deep satisfaction that come from digging in the dirt once in a while, so that my daughters have these memories to ground them later in life.  Why?  I think something truly fundamental is missing from our day-to-day lives. Do you feel it too? My lived experience is that our current business culture thrives on speed, efficiency, and profits but at an unsurmountable cost to our individual health and societal well-being.  We need to create brave spaces for people to recover and thrive in the workplace.  We need to prioritize well-being in all of our business processes if we are to sustain improvements to our quality of life.  Only then can we collectively adapt and innovate in the workplace.

Halcyon Homesteading is firmly planted in the knowledge that calmness, prosperity, and joy can not only co-exist, they need to co-exist for our personal and professional well-being.  My research in complexity leadership theory uncovered five fundamental concepts that have proven their value across many industries, in both personal and professional contexts.  They are entangled concepts that ultimately support an inclusive, collaborative and innovative leadership practice.  I am excited to share my work with you and your organization, in alignment with your personal or professional goals.  Place, space, and grace is a holistic framework for being healthier and happier in all aspects of life. I'm honored to walk beside you as we discover new paths to prosperity.

Halcyon means calm, tranquil, rich and prosperous, as well as joyful and carefree; a definition that today is filled with paradox and perhaps, even feels unattainable. At Halcyon Homesteading this belief in "yes and" guides our approach to life and work, living for today and all generations to follow.  Living a good life shouldn't mean one has to choose between tranquility, joy, and prosperity.  Having a successful career should add to your life, not take from it.  At Halcyon Homesteading we believe a life worth living is well...halcyon.

Why work with Dr. Reva Bond?

Reva's approach to community tending is well-founded in business, science and social science theory and practice. Her 20+ years of leadership experience in various fields including hospitality, manufacturing, construction, and education inform her grounded approach to cultivating sacred practices in today's complex world.

Reva completed her doctorate in distance education from Athabasca University in early 2023 completing a dissertation that explored enabling leadership practice within Complexity Leadership Theory. Seeking to further develop her practice in complexity she enrolled in Healthy Human Culture with Sophy Banks in late 2024 where she learned the importance of return paths as a social innovation for well-being.  In early 2025 she enrolled in Warrior Training for the Human Spirit, from the Berkana Institute. This practice, designed by Dr. Margaret Wheatley, uncovers the knowledge that lives in lineage, place, and space. Adopting this practice solidified the direction for her path of contribution.  She is currently working towards her circle practitioner certification through The Circle Way.

Dr. Reva Bond provides expertise in the ecological paradigm, complexity leadership theory, enabling leadership skill development, inner development skills, and complexity mentorship for leaders in traditional workplaces. Her work focuses on sowing the seeds of possibility and nourishing adaptive spaces in order to create a more sustainable future.

Prior to becoming a social entrepreneur Reva experienced traditional career success occupying male-dominated spaces. A multi-disciplinary, progressive career spanning hospitality, tourism, manufacturing, health care, industrial construction and higher education, culminated in being

the first female Dean in the School of Construction at SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology). She founded the International Women’s Day Conference and Celebration at SAIT in 2018 which is still running strong today. She has mentored dozens of women formally and informally through organizations such as Women in Trades and Technology (WITT) and Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) and was a founding member of EMBRACE, an employee resource group at SAIT committed to supporting feminine leadership. She has spoken about the critical importance for female mentorship in the workplace and has been an advocate for supporting mental well-being for trades people locally, nationally and internationally for close to two decades.

Her three tween daughters remain her biggest inspiration to work in the spaces that require bravery and compassion. These are the spaces where the ready-to-be discovered innovations live. Reva knows in her bones that feminine leadership is what is required to nourish new ways of being, thinking, relating, collaborating and acting so that our great, great grandchildren will experience a world even better than this one.
